Sometimes it's difficult to see how we get from one place to the other in our lives. Take Mickey Rourke for example. How did he get from Kim Bassinger in 9 1/2 Weeks, and Carrie Otis in Wild Orchid....to Randy "The Ram" Robinson in The Wrestler, you might ask? Apparently, he decided to take the road less traveled...not always a wise choice, but for him it seems to be working out just fine. I caught this flick over the weekend and was extremely surprised at what an intense and heart-felt story loomed between his horrid plastic surgery and Marisa Tomei's brass pole dancing scenes. I think I was most moved by the fact that this movie, in some ways, parallels his life of addiction, booze and bad choices. He passed up many roles, including Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, Tom Cruise's role in Rain Man, and Nick Nolte's part in 48 Hrs. Even though he had a part in Sin City 2 a few years back, I would definitely consider this his breakout role and would strongly suggest a viewing to form your own opinion. Be open-minded and objective, as the badly mangled man-weave strongly mimics Britney Spears pre-shaven head and the overuse of steroids to get this pre-geriatric body makes him appear a bit like a Popeye Halloween costume purchased from Wal-Mart. Every movie doesn't have to be life-changing, does it? And now:

Just my opinion...
