is the amount of time I have been in a moving vehicle since Sunday. Earlier this year, my wonderful, sweet, beautiful daughter Kristen was nominated to attend the Congressional Youth Leadership Conference from July 20-25. We prepared for this trip as thoroughly as two girls could prepare. New clothes, new purse, great walking shoes, and two of every travel size toiletry product made by Bath and Body Works. We left to take Kristen to D.C. on Sunday morning at 6:30a and arrived around 12:30p. A pleasant, uneventful trip if you block out the 26 miles of orange barreled one lane traffic on I-85 and I-495 traffic jam caused by dry wall and insulation flying out of the back of a '79 Dodge pick-up truck. We got her all checked in at the U of M Conference Center and she couldn't have been more excited. We all hugged, said our good-byes and Greg & I headed back to W-S while Kristen had a fabulous, exciting week full of educational fun! The End.
Unfortunately, the story didn't end that way. After 247 phone calls, 187 text messages, and 1 email of a picture of her hyterically crying in her bathroom, we made a second trip and headed for the I-495 beltway around 8:30pm on Tuesday evening. Anyway, we drove back Wednesday morning and brought with us a very homesick, appreciative little girl who loves us more than we even knew. Oh well, ironically she goes to D.C. next year for her 7th grade field trip. We won't be the parents volunteering to drive for that trip.
