Vampires Don't Scare Me

"I hope you have one just like you one day"...I heard this about 42,649 times growing up. I would like to consider myself somewhat of a "free spirit", but apparently my parents disagreed and thought I was more of a heathen. Now, I'm blessed with this "do no wrong" pre-teen daughter who thinks I'm on the fast track to hell because I occasionally let an expletive fly and drink wine. In an effort to not break the chain of bond during puberty, I thought it a good idea to schedule "girl days" as often as possible.

We decided to get lunch and take in a matinee at the $2.50 theatre, so she suggested we see the movie Twilight. Sure, whatever...it's PG-13 and all of her friends have seen it, so I'm down as long as there's popcorn with an obscene amount of butter and Cherry Coke. So while the previews are playing, she is filling me in on this movie...apparently about vampires, there is a series of books and there will be more movies. I'm a little concerned about how I'm going to stay awake for this flick, but hoping the caffeine will keep me pumped up. While contemplating an escape route for Skittles, this guy appears on the screen and I'm like Whoa. Hmmm. Interesting. I'll hang out and see what's happening. Doubtful that I need the Skittles anyway, since the grease from the popcorn has already soaked through my jeans.

So now I can't take my eyes off of this movie, or this guy...who just happens to be a vampire who has been 17 years-old for 300 years. I'm buying this up like it's on the clearance rack at Ann Taylor Loft. And I can't get enough of it. Now I'm asking questions and making comments and really enjoying this flick, when my daughter says, "Shhhhh! Mom, you are acting like Nana - you think you're whispering but you're being really loud". *insert me jumping off a building here* I can't even believe she said it...could it be? Now I'm going to have to reassess my entire personality. This in conjunction with my 40th birthday looming eerily like a funnel cloud, may put me over the edge.
